There are lots of possibilities for walking or cycling in the surrounding area : Gatteville lighthouse – 2km, Jonville beach - 9 km.


There is a 3.1km discovery trail around the village with information boards along the way (maps are available in the Internet or from the Tourist Office).


Barfleur is also situated on the famous GR 223 (Grande Randonnée – long distance walking track) “the coast trail”.


During your stay don’t forget to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site at Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue -11 km


Cherbourg is less than 30 km: on a rainy day, you can visit the Cité de la Mer and revisit the history of the Titanic or go inside a nuclear submarine.


The Normandy landing beaches are less than 40 km away.


All year long, markets selling local produce take place in Barfleur and in nearby villages, such as Saint-Pierre-Eglise or Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue.

  • Saint-Pierre-Eglise 9 km: Wednesday morning on the market place close to the church
  • Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue 11 km: Saturday morning between the Place de la République and Place Belle-Isle

MusiKenSaire festival in Barfleur in the Saint-Nicolas Church with many other summer events


The village of Barfleur is very busy during summer with lots of events.


Musical summer


The «Eté Musical de Barfleur» is a music festival organised by the Association of the “Amis de l’église de Barfleur” (Friends of the Church) proposing concerts by famous musicians which takes place in the Saint Nicolas Church.
The acoustics are excellent and the performance is projected onto several screens in the church to give the whole audience a good view of the musicians.
The 20th edition will take place from July 27 to August 9, 2023.

Village of Antique Dealers

In 2023, this event will take place from the 18th till the 21st of August.

The «Village des Antiquaires» is an important event for Barfleur and the Cotentin.
The stands of around 40 exhibitors are installed on the quayside and will welcome you for 4 days from 10am to 7pm.
This is a free entrance event and you can stroll and browse, or buy paintings, furniture or jewellery.
You may also take a break at The «Bar du Village» for a drink or an oyster tasting.

MusiKenSaire festival

Every 1st weekend of September, the festival of the local music scene «MusiKenSaire» takes place on the quayside of the Barfleur harbour.
The public can enjoy many free concerts and performances and discover the best Normandy rock, pop and folk bands .
